WATER & SEWAGE DAMAGE
The climate of Canada is notorious for severe fluctuations in temperature, which invariably causes pipes to leak or outright burst. Water can cause extensive damage to properties due to its ability to seep through ceilings, walls, and other semi-permeable membranes. Sewage backups can also create health hazards for residents and guests.
FIRE & SMOKE DAMAGE
Damage from a house or property fire can be catastrophic. Not only from the fire itself, but also from the various compounds used to extinguish the blaze, as well as smoke damage that lingers long after the fire. Special care and caution needs to be taken with fire restoration projects, given the possibility of structural weakening and failure.
WIND & IMPACT DAMAGE
Many regions of Canada are prone to extreme wind gusts, tornados, and even the weakening end of Atlantic hurricanes. These weather phenomena can hurtle lose debris at buildings and structures in excess of 100 Km/hour, damaging structures, roofs, and shattering windows. Rapid response to wind damage is essential in order to stabilize the structure, secure the property and prevent invasive pests and intruders from gaining unfettered access.
There are several types and strains of mould that can grow under the right conditions. As it is a living micro-organism, it will continue to grow and produce spores unless treated completely. This not only involves removing the existing mould, but treating and or removing any affected building materials on which the mould has grown. This requires specialized equipment and expertise, and should never be undertaken by anyone but a certified and trained mould remediation professional.
While it is now illegal in Canada to build with any products containing asbestos, a vast number of homes and properties built prior to 1980 were constructed using asbestos-laden insulation, wall boards, and other building materials. If you suspect you have asbestos in your home or building, it is essential that you not disturb it. The consequences to your health are severe. Rigorous safety measures are required for any remediation project, and only certified asbestos technicians have the training to ensure health risks are eliminated.
Many property restoration and remediation projects require advanced and sophisticated coordination among multiple specialties. A fire in a multi-family building, for example, will also involve extensive water damage and even site security during cleanup and reconstruction. EMRG members are certified insurance large loss contractors, and can mobilize all required resources no matter the scale of the restoration project.
A biohazard is a broad classification of hazard that encompasses any biochemical substance that is, or may be, harmful to human health. This can include human waste from a sewage backup, discarded needles and drug paraphernalia, as well as the remnant chemicals from a methamphetamine or other drug lab.
EMRG members also specialize in providing thorough and professional commercial cleaning services. This may include post-construction site cleanup, ongoing cleaning and sanitation services, and graffiti removal.
Even in very specific situations requiring rare skills, EMRG brings together the specialists required to handle anything – such as these services, available in some locations:
